5 Tips to Up Your Street Style Game

There is a massive difference between looking like a bum and having mad street style game! To be honest, before I went to New York, anytime I dressed down from my dapper ways I felt scruffy! I feel like I learnt how to rock street style from the streets of New York City. So I am going to share my 5 tips to up your street style game this year:

1. Invest In A Pair Of Boots

Boots make you a rockstar! If you have seen some of my recent looks, I have been rocking boots a lot. A few reasons for this: they are insanely comfortable, they go well with skinny jeans and they up your street style game immediately. Boots, generally, are very accommodating to different looks, and with a pair of skinny jeans, they really elevate a look with the high tops flushing the look nicely with the bottom of your jeans. Below I have picked out three of my go-to boots that you may catch me on the streets of London wearing: In order of the pictures they are by Harley Davidson, Caterpillar and Timberland. Check out their range by clicking on the links.

2. Long Tops Are Your New Best Friend

Long baggy tops are dope! Let this be your go-to this year. For those who know me well, will know I only like to dress tight but this is the only exception I make. However, for me there is one rule with the long/baggy tops – they must be worn with a pair of slim/skinny fit pair of jeans. It really makes the look stand out with the baggy upper body look and a complete contrast with skinny fitted jeans. Step outside of your comfort zone and give it a go – the below top is from Zara.

3. Skinny Fit & Ripped Jeans Is The New You

Taking that step from slim fit jeans to skinny fit can be a daunting experience at the beginning. But I promise you, it gets better! Sure, they feel REALLY SKINNY when you try them on in the fitting room for the first time. And sure, when you look back at yourself in the mirror, you probably want to run a mile but persevere here. They will open up as you are on the move and with time they’ll look great on you. Combining these with boots or a pair of sneakers is a killer combo! Ripped jeans also shows great character in the street style game – and provides that rough and ready look.

4. Equip Your Wardrobe With a Leather and Denim Jacket

I can’t emphasise enough the importance of having a leather and denim jacket in your arsenal. Street style looks without these just look incomplete for me. A leather jacket is the retro street style look, whereas the denim jacket can give it a preppy lift. If you are strapped for cash at this stage and want to get that leather jacket for someday in the future, consider getting yourself a bomber jacket which is also a great addition to your street style game. Check out places like ASOS for one.

5. Rock It Like A Boss

All the above mean nothing if you don’t rock it like a boss! Street style is brought to life with personality, character, movement and hustle. I’ve always been a firm believer that your style is an outlet of your personality so have the confidence to rock your look and stand out. Standing out will definitely have people looking at you differently and you will notice this, but your style is always a personal choice so carry that look and don’t be afraid.

So these are some of my tips to get you started on your street style journey and if you have suggestions I would love to hear from you below. What are your go-to’s for your street style?
